Don’t Get Lost in the Hustle and Bustle
One of the classic songs of the season, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year, sums up quite a bit of what Christmas has become within its lyrics.
“There’ll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago…”
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago…”
The song goes on and on about all the things to be done, all of which are good, but it can actually all be quite overwhelming if you think about it. The other day I caught myself feeling the weight of obligations and expectations. I almost let the hectic schedules and time crunches get in my head, allowing my joy to buried underneath it all, but during my quiet time with the Lord, He reminded me of what this time is all about.
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Ahhhh, what a sigh of relief I felt just at the sheer remembrance that God is genuinely with me. And, of course, deep down inside, we know this. We know the reason why we celebrate is the birth of Jesus Christ, but sometimes it can get shuffled within the mix instead of being the focus of why we are celebrating in the first place.
My prayer for you, dear friend, is that you don’t get lost in the hustle and bustle. Keep Christ the focus of your season and breathe God in, and remember, He is Emmanuel, God with us.
Blessings,
Mandy Fender
